Which Eyeliner Type Gives You the Look You Want?

The type decides how sharp the line looks, how forgiving it is, and how much practice it needs. Start with the table, then read the notes below it for products and trade-offs.

Liquid Eyeliner: Felt-Tip Pens and Brush-Tip Liners

Liquid eyeliner is one of the most popular choices in Pakistan for wings and graphic shapes because it gives a sharp, defined line. The applicator matters as much as the formula.

  • Felt-tip eyeliner (pen eyeliner) works like a fine marker, and its tapered tip suits beginners and sharp wings. Revolution Relove Slick Flick is a felt-tip liquid pen, and Trouble Maker Outsider is another pen-style liquid liner.
  • Brush-tip and dip liners use a brush instead of a marker tip, so one product can draw a hairline or a thick flick. Revolution Relove Dip Eyeliner is one example. The trade-off is speed. Liquid dries fast, and a wobbly line can be harder to fix once it sets, so beginners may find short, controlled strokes easier.

Gel Eyeliner

Gel eyeliner is creamy and slightly softer than liquid. It gives a bold line that can still be blended for a few seconds before it sets. Lamel Oh My Color Gel Eye Liner is a good example because its gel format works well for defined lines, colour, and softer edges.

Is gel better than liquid? Neither wins overall. Liquid is sharper and better for crisp wings. Gel is more forgiving and better for soft edges and colour. For more gel pots, gel pencils and eye pencils, see our Gel Liner & Eye Pencils collection.

Eyeliner Pencils, Kajal and Kohl

Pencils have no drying time and no brush to load, which makes them the easiest to start with. On a modern label, a kajal eyeliner or kohl eyeliner usually describes a soft, dark, smudgy texture. Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencil and Essence Inner Eye Khoj Kajal are examples. Rimmel Kind & Free Clean Eye Definer adds more shades, covered in the shade guide below.

Cake Eyeliner

Kryolan Aquacolor Cake Liner is the example here. Because it is water-based, cake liner is not waterproof by default. Kryolan describes using its separate Cake Eye Liner Sealer for water-resistant wear. You also need a fine brush, so browse our makeup brushes before you order.

Waterproof, Water-Resistant and Smudge-Resistant: What the Label Means

These terms sound alike but promise different things. Waterproof is a claim about water, sweat, and tears. Water-resistant is a lighter claim. Smudge-resistant or transfer-resistant describes how well the line stays put on the lid instead of printing onto the crease. For makeup, these are brand claims, not one shared standard, so read the exact wording on each pack.

That is why labels can mislead. A matte felt-tip liner can resist smudging without being waterproof. Long-lasting is also a claim and not a measurement. Wear time depends on your skin, the weather, and how you prepare the lid. Check the directions on cake liners too, because water-based formulas may not be waterproof.

For hot weather, long wedding days, or events where tears are likely, start with liners that state waterproof. Examples in this collection include Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner Waterproof, Sheglam Uninterrupted Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, and Lamel Long-Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner. Swiss Miss Water Resistant Long Lasting Eye Liner makes the lighter water-resistant claim.

Removal and Eye Safety

Waterproof formulas often need a proper makeup remover, because plain water or a quick wipe may not clear them. A few habits keep eye makeup safer:

  • Patch test a new liner on your inner arm first.
  • Keep liner off the inner rim of the eye unless the pack says it is meant for that.
  • Do not share eye products.
  • Stop using a liner if your eyes become red, itchy, or sore, and speak to an eye doctor if the irritation continues.

Eyeliner Shades: Black, Brown, White and Colour

Shade sets the mood of the look. Finish changes how it catches the light.

Black Eyeliner

Black gives the strongest contrast and the most defined wing. Words like deep black or ultra black usually point to a dense colour in one pass. Ofra Verified Liquid Liner and Rimmel Wonder'Ink Ultimate Eyeliner are black options.

Brown Eyeliner

Brown softens the line, which suits natural makeup and anyone who finds black too harsh. Max Factor Masterpiece Matte Liquid Eyeliner comes in 03 Espresso as well as 01 Black. Kryolan Aquacolor Cake Liner 043 Brown is the water-activated choice. If you are unsure where to start, brown is a gentle first shade.

White Eyeliner

White makes a clean graphic line, a bright inner-corner accent, or a base that helps a coloured line show up brighter. Try Revolution Relove Dip Eyeliner in White or the 005 Creamy White shade of the Rimmel Kind & Free definer.

Coloured Eyeliner

Blue, green, purple and pink work best as the one bold feature. Keep lids and lashes simple so the colour reads clearly. The Lamel Oh My Color gel range includes orange, yellow, green, violet and pink, and the Rimmel definer includes Grape and Anime Blue.

Matte, Shimmer and Metallic Finishes

Matte gives a flat, crisp line, as in the Sheglam Ez Glide Matte Eyeliner Pencil. Shimmer, metallic, and glitter finishes catch light and show lid texture, so they suit parties more than daily wear. Not every shade comes in every finish, so check the details on each product page.

Eyeliner Prices in Pakistan

There is no single price for eyeliner. Affordable and premium options sit in the same collection, and these factors explain the gap:

  • Brand and positioning: everyday brands and premium brands are priced differently.
  • Formula: waterproof and long-wear formulas can cost more than basic ones.
  • Type: a gel pot, a liquid pen, and a cake liner are different products, so they are priced differently.
  • Pack size and finish: a larger pack or a special finish changes the price.

Check size before you compare. Packs here range from compact 0.5 ml pens to 5 ml dip bottles and 8 ml cake liners, and pencils are listed in grams. The same amount of money buys different quantities. A bigger pack is not better value if it dries out before you finish it. Use the price filter, sort by price from low to high, then tick In stock. Prices and discounts change often, so the price on the grid is the one that counts.

Find the Right Eyeliner Faster

The filters narrow this collection quickly. Choose a product type, then brand, price, and availability. The brand filter includes Gosh, Essence, Kryolan, Rimmel London, L'Oréal Paris, Lamel, Maybelline, Sheglam, Revolution, NYX, e.l.f., Ofra, Swiss Miss, Trouble Maker and Max Factor, along with other names. Stock changes often, and popular shades can sell out. Tick in stock first so you only compare what you can order today.

FAQs

Can I use eyeliner on my waterline?

Only if the pack says the product is meant for the waterline, the inner rim beside your lashes. Some pencils state this, and many liquid liners do not. A waterproof label does not confirm it. Stop using any product that irritates your eyes, and see an eye-care professional if the discomfort continues.

Is modern kajal the same as traditional surma?

No. Traditional kohl, kajal, and surma preparations can contain lead, and the US FDA warns against them, especially for children. On many modern eyeliners, the word kohl or kajal only describes a dark shade and soft texture. Use products made for the eye area, check the ingredient list, and avoid unlabelled preparations near the eyes.

How do I remove waterproof eyeliner?

Use an eye makeup remover made for the eye area. Hold a soaked cotton pad on the lid for a few seconds so the liner loosens, then wipe gently. Scrubbing irritates the skin and risks scratching the eye. Some long-wear formulas respond better to oil-based removers, so follow the pack.

How long can I keep eyeliner after opening, and how should I store it?

Check the open-jar symbol on the pack, because the period differs by formula. Replace the product if its smell or texture changes, and discard eye makeup you used during an eye infection. Keep the cap tight and wash your hands before use. The FDA advises against storing cosmetics above about 29°C (85°F), which summer in Pakistan can easily exceed, so avoid cars and sunny windowsills. Never share eye makeup.

How do I make sure I order the right shade?

Select the variant on the product page and read the shade name and number together. Numbers differ between brands, and sometimes between ranges from one brand, so match the brand, range, and shade name of the liner you already use.

What if the eyeliner I want is sold out?

Tick In stock, then compare the same type and shade family from another brand. If you are unsure which one is closest, message us, and we will help you find a match.

Can I return an eyeliner if I do not like it?

Opened or used makeup is not eligible for return under our policy, and change-of-mind returns are not accepted, so check the shade and type before you open the pack. If the wrong or a damaged item arrives, contact us within 24 hours of delivery and follow the steps in our return and refund policy.
